Drug intelligence / Profile preview
AL-126 is a preclinical-stage small molecule triterpenoid isolated from the medicinal fungus *Antrodia cinnamomea* (commonly known as niu-chang-chih). Developed by ALPS Biotech, the compound acts as an inhibitor of the NLRP3 inflammasome. By suppressing NLRP3 inflammasome activation, AL-126 aims to mitigate neuroinflammation, which is a key driver in the progression of neurodegenerative disorders. In preclinical in vivo mouse models of Huntington's disease, AL-126 has demonstrated significant efficacy in delaying disease progression and improving survival rates. ALPS Biotech is also exploring its potential application in other neurodegenerative conditions, such as spinocerebellar ataxia (SCA), Alzheimer's disease, and Parkinson's disease.
