AL101-AOB is a botanical drug developed by AngioLab for the treatment of abnormal (abdominal/visceral) obesity. It is prepared by activity-guided fractionation from Melissa (lemon balm). The drug acts as an angiogenesis inhibitor, targeting vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF), and matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs). By inhibiting these pathways, AL101-AOB reduces the formation of new blood vessels in adipose tissue, which is associated with a reduction in visceral fat. In clinical studies, a 12-week treatment with AL101-AOB resulted in approximately 15% reduction of visceral fat as measured by CT scan. The primary indication is abdominal obesity and related metabolic syndrome[1][3][5][7].
