Overview

Al18F-PSMA-617 is a radiopharmaceutical compound designed for positron emission tomography (PET) imaging of prostate cancer. It consists of the PSMA-617 ligand, which targets the prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA), a cell surface protein highly overexpressed in most prostate cancers, labeled with aluminum fluoride complexed with fluorine-18 (^18F). The drug binds specifically to PSMA-expressing cells, allowing for sensitive and specific detection of primary and metastatic prostate cancer lesions via PET imaging. This agent leverages the favorable imaging properties of ^18F, such as its suitable half-life and high positron yield, providing an alternative to other PSMA-targeted tracers like ^68Ga-labeled compounds. Preclinical studies have demonstrated high affinity binding to PSMA and effective tumor visualization in animal models; early clinical studies indicate promising diagnostic performance in patients with newly diagnosed or recurrent prostate cancer[7][1].
