Drug intelligence / Profile preview
ALA-002 is a novel, patented MDMA-class small molecule being developed by PharmAla Biotech. It is designed as a next-generation entactogen with an improved safety and toxicology profile compared to generic MDMA (3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine). The compound is primarily being investigated for the treatment of social anxiety in patients with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), which is considered an orphan indication. PharmAla Biotech has partnered with the University of Sydney to advance ALA-002 into clinical development, following regulatory guidance from the UK's MHRA that allowed the program to proceed directly to clinical trials without further preclinical data. The company intends to move the candidate rapidly into Phase 2 clinical trials.
