Drug intelligence / Profile preview
ALA-3000 is a proprietary, extended-release injectable formulation of ketamine developed by Alar Pharmaceuticals for the treatment of treatment-resistant depression (TRD). It utilizes the company's In-Relar sustained release drug delivery platform to provide a long-acting effect, maintaining therapeutic levels of ketamine in the blood for over one week following a single subcutaneous dose. This approach aims to deliver stable antidepressant effects while reducing side effects commonly associated with rapid-acting ketamine formulations, such as sedation and dissociation. The drug is currently being evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials in the United States to assess its safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics, and preliminary efficacy in patients with TRD[1][2][3][4][6]. Preclinical studies have demonstrated prolonged antidepressant effects lasting more than one month in animal models[6].
