ala-cpn10 (also known as INV103) is a recombinant, minimally modified form of the human protein chaperonin 10 (Cpn10), also referred to as heat shock protein 10 (HSP10). It acts as an immunomodulator and anti-inflammatory agent, proposed to be a founding member of the Resolution Associated Molecular Pattern (RAMPs) family, which are hypothesized to maintain and restore immune homeostasis. The drug has been investigated primarily for autoimmune diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and rheumatoid arthritis. Mechanistically, it suppresses innate and adaptive immunity by modulating cytokine production in peripheral blood mononuclear cells, notably reducing levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines like IL‑1β, IL‑6, TNF‑α in stimulated immune cells from patients with SLE. Preclinical studies have shown that recombinant Cpn10 can prevent cutaneous lupus lesions and suppress nephritis in animal models without broadly affecting systemic autoimmunity[1][4][7][9].
