Overview

Alacizumab pegol (CDP791) is a PEGylated di-Fab' antibody fragment developed by UCB Pharma that specifically targets and antagonizes vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 (VEGFR-2/KDR/CD309). By blocking the binding of VEGF to its receptor, alacizumab pegol inhibits the signaling pathways that drive tumor angiogenesis, thereby restricting the blood and nutrient supply to cancer cells. The drug was primarily investigated in Phase II clinical trials for the treatment of locally advanced or metastatic non-squamous non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) as an add-on to standard chemotherapy (carboplatin and paclitaxel). Despite showing some efficacy in progression-free survival and tumor response rates, UCB Pharma discontinued its development.
