Overview

Alacramyn NAMO is an equine-derived F(ab')2 antivenom developed by Instituto Bioclon S.A. de C.V. for the treatment of scorpion envenomation caused by species native to North Africa and the Middle East. It is a third-generation fabotherapeutic consisting of purified F(ab')2 antibody fragments obtained from the plasma of horses immunized with scorpion venom. These fragments work by binding to and neutralizing circulating scorpion toxins, preventing their interaction with sodium channels in the peripheral and autonomic nervous systems. The drug is administered intravenously and has been evaluated in Phase 2/3 clinical trials to reduce the severity of envenomation symptoms in pediatric patients.
