Alavac is an allergen immunotherapy (allergy vaccine) product consisting of pyridine-denatured allergoid extracts precipitated with aluminum hydroxide (alum) as a depot formulation. Developed by GSK and Kallergen, it is designed for the treatment of allergic rhinitis and related allergic conditions, such as atopic dermatitis, caused by sensitization to specific allergens like house dust mites (*Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus* and *D. farinae*) or *Parietaria judaica* pollen. The pyridine extraction and chemical modification (denaturation) into allergoids aim to reduce allergenicity (IgE binding) while maintaining immunogenicity (T-cell response), facilitating desensitization through subcutaneous administration. Clinical studies have shown that treatment with Alavac can lead to significant reductions in disease severity scores and immunological markers such as CCL17, CCL22, and CCL18.
