Albendazole + vitamin A is a combination therapy consisting of albendazole, a benzimidazole anthelmintic, and vitamin A (retinol), a fat-soluble micronutrient. Albendazole acts by inhibiting microtubule polymerization in helminths, leading to impaired glucose uptake and parasite death. Vitamin A is essential for vision, immune function, and cellular growth; it also plays a role in iron metabolism. The combination has been studied primarily as an intervention for pre-school children with anemia or at risk of parasitic infections and micronutrient deficiencies. Clinical studies show that co-administration improves serum retinol levels, iron status (ferritin), hemoglobin concentration, and reduces the prevalence of both vitamin A deficiency and iron deficiency more effectively than either agent alone[1][3][5]. This approach is used as part of public health strategies in regions with high rates of helminth infection and nutritional deficiencies.
