Overview

Albiflorin is a natural monoterpene glycoside primarily isolated from the roots of *Paeonia lactiflora* (Radix Paeoniae Alba). It is a structural isomer of paeoniflorin and is recognized for its diverse pharmacological activities, including anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and neuroprotective properties. In neuropsychiatry, albiflorin has been investigated for its antidepressant-like effects, which are thought to involve the modulation of monoamine neurotransmitters such as serotonin and norepinephrine, as well as the regulation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis. Additionally, research indicates its potential as an antineoplastic agent; specifically, it has been shown to inhibit the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway, thereby suppressing tumor cell proliferation and enhancing the antitumor effects of other agents like propofol in hepatocellular carcinoma.
