Overview

**Albiglutide + alpha-glucosidase inhibitor** is a combination therapy for type 2 diabetes mellitus in which **albiglutide**, a glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonist (GLP-1 RA), is administered alongside an **alpha-glucosidase inhibitor** (AGI) such as acarbose, miglitol, or voglibose. Albiglutide acts by mimicking the incretin hormone GLP-1, thereby enhancing glucose-dependent insulin secretion and suppressing glucagon secretion. Alpha-glucosidase inhibitors function by inhibiting enzymes (alpha-glucosidases) in the small intestine, thus slowing carbohydrate digestion and attenuating postprandial glucose spikes. The combined use targets multiple glycemic control mechanisms: fasting and especially postprandial hyperglycemia. This combination has been studied in patients inadequately controlled on oral antidiabetic monotherapy, where it has been shown to improve HbA1c and fasting plasma glucose with a favorable safety profile and minimal hypoglycemia risk[1][5][3].
