Overview

Albizia adianthifolia extract refers to any preparation obtained from the heartwood, bark, leaves, or roots of the plant Albizia adianthifolia, a tree used extensively in African traditional medicine. Extracts contain a broad array of phytochemicals such as apocarotenoids, chalcones, dipeptides, elliptosides, essential oils, fatty acids, flavonoids, histamine, imidazolyl carboxylic acid, prosapogenins, steroids, triterpene saponins, and triterpenoids. Preclinical studies suggest numerous bioactivities, including antibacterial, antifungal, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anxiolytic, antidepressant, cognitive-enhancing, hypoglycemic, immunomodulatory, acetylcholinesterase inhibitory, cytotoxic, and other effects. Major compounds identified in extracts include n-hexadecanoic acid, oleic acid, chondrillasterol, stigmasterol, 24S 5α-stigmast-7-en-3β-ol, 9,12-octadecadienoic acid (Z,Z)-, methyl ester, and trans-13-octadecenoic acid, methyl ester. There is no established pharmaceutical use or approval, and clinical studies are lacking. Uses are limited to traditional medicine as a herbal remedy for diabetes, gastrointestinal and neurological disorders, skin diseases, and infections[1][2][3][5].
