Albrex

Albrex is an oral anthelmintic medication containing the small molecule albendazole, manufactured by Medimet Pharmaceuticals. It belongs to the benzimidazole class of drugs and exerts its therapeutic effect by binding to the colchicine-sensitive site of parasite beta-tubulin. This binding inhibits tubulin polymerization into microtubules, leading to the disruption of essential cellular processes such as glucose uptake and secretion in the parasite, eventually resulting in its death. Albrex is indicated for the treatment of a variety of parasitic infestations, including intestinal nematode infections (such as ascariasis and hookworm) and systemic infections like hydatid disease caused by Echinococcus granulosus.
