Overview

Albumin is a major plasma protein that, in the specific context of the MIGHT Trial (Monotherapy IVIG Gamunex-C for HMG-CoA Reductase Auto-Antibody Positive Necrotizing Myopathy Treatment), is utilized as a placebo control. Sponsored by the University of Washington, this Phase 2 trial evaluates the efficacy of Gamunex-C (intravenous immunoglobulin) as a monotherapy for patients with anti-HMGCR antibody-positive immune-mediated necrotizing myopathy. The albumin is prepared as a 1% solution and administered intravenously at a volume equivalent to the weight-based dose of the active investigational drug to maintain the double-blind study design. While albumin is a therapeutic agent in other clinical settings, such as volume expansion or treating hypoalbuminemia, it serves as an inactive comparator in this specific trial arm.
