Overview

This combination therapy consists of albumin-bound paclitaxel (nab-paclitaxel) and a bevacizumab biosimilar. Nab-paclitaxel is a microtubule inhibitor that promotes the assembly of microtubules from tubulin dimers and stabilizes microtubules by preventing depolymerization, which inhibits mitosis and leads to cell death. Bevacizumab is a recombinant humanized monoclonal antibody that binds to vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), preventing its interaction with receptors (VEGFR-1 and VEGFR-2) on the surface of endothelial cells. This action inhibits tumor angiogenesis, thereby limiting the blood supply necessary for tumor growth and metastasis. The specific combination is being investigated by Shandong University in a Phase II clinical trial for patients with recurrent, platinum-resistant epithelial ovarian, fallopian tube, or primary peritoneal cancer who have not previously received bevacizumab therapy.
