Overview

This is a chemotherapy regimen that includes albumin-bound paclitaxel (also known as nab-paclitaxel or Abraxane), cyclophosphamide, and pirarubicin. This is a combination of three distinct anticancer agents. Albumin-bound paclitaxel is a novel formulation of paclitaxel that uses nanoparticle technology. It consists of 130-nm particles where paclitaxel is bound to albumin, making it free from any solvents like Cremophor-EL that are used in conventional paclitaxel formulations. This formulation allows for higher doses to be administered with fewer side effects compared to standard paclitaxel. It enhances the delivery and dispersion of paclitaxel within the body. It works by blocking cell division through interference with microtubules, preventing their normal breakdown during mitosis, which eventually causes cancer cells to die. Cyclophosphamide is a well-known alkylating agent. Pirarubicin is an anthracycline antibiotic with antitumor activity. This combination would likely be used in the treatment of certain types of cancer, possibly breast cancer, as albumin-bound paclitaxel is approved for metastatic breast cancer, and both cyclophosphamide and anthracyclines are commonly used in breast cancer treatment regimens.
