Overview

Albumin peptides are short chains of amino acids derived from the enzymatic or chemical hydrolysis of albumin, a major plasma protein primarily produced by the liver. Unlike intact human serum albumin (HSA), which is used therapeutically as a plasma expander and for treating hypoalbuminemia and hypovolemia[1][2][3], "albumin peptides" refers specifically to smaller peptide fragments generated from the parent protein. These peptides may be investigated or marketed as dietary supplements for their potential bioactive properties such as antioxidant activity, modulation of immune response, or support in muscle recovery. They are not standard pharmaceutical drugs but rather fall under the category of functional food ingredients or nutraceuticals. Their mechanism is generally attributed to their ability to interact with biological pathways through antioxidant effects and possible signaling functions; however, they do not act via a single defined pharmacological target like intact therapeutic human serum albumin.
