ALC-079 is an enzyme-based therapeutic product in development by Alcresta Therapeutics, designed to address fat malabsorption and enteral feeding intolerance in neonates and infants. It utilizes the proprietary iLipase technology, which consists of the digestive enzyme lipase immobilized on polymeric microbead carriers within a cartridge. This technology is intended for use in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) to facilitate the digestion of fats (triglycerides) in enteral formulas or breast milk into absorbable free fatty acids and monoglycerides. By compensating for neonatal pancreatic immaturity and low endogenous lipase levels, ALC-079 aims to improve the absorption of critical nutrients, including long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids like docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and arachidonic acid (AA), which are essential for infant development.
