alcaftadine

Alcaftadine is a small molecule antihistamine used as an ophthalmic solution to prevent itching associated with allergic conjunctivitis. It acts primarily as a direct antagonist and inverse agonist at the histamine H1 receptor, but also exhibits activity at H2 and H4 receptors. Alcaftadine inhibits the release of histamine from mast cells, reduces eosinophil recruitment, and has anti-inflammatory effects in ocular tissues. It was approved for medical use in July 2010 and is available both as a prescription and over-the-counter medication.
