Overview

*Alcea digitata* is a medicinal plant species belonging to the Malvaceae family, widely utilized in traditional Persian medicine for its potent demulcent and anti-inflammatory properties. The therapeutic efficacy of the plant is primarily attributed to its high concentration of mucilage, which forms a protective physical barrier over irritated mucous membranes in the respiratory and gastrointestinal tracts. This makes it a common remedy for managing dry cough, bronchitis, and gastric ulcers. Phytochemical analysis of *Alcea digitata* has also identified a variety of secondary metabolites, including flavonoids and anthocyanins, which contribute to its antioxidant and antimicrobial activities. While it is predominantly administered in the form of crude herbal infusions or extracts, it is recognized as a significant botanical source for treating mucosal inflammation and is often studied in the context of ethnopharmacology for its gastroprotective and immunomodulatory effects.
