Alcof Expectorant

Alcof Expectorant is an approved combination cough syrup developed and manufactured by Dawa Life Sciences. It is formulated with three active ingredients: ammonium chloride, chlorpheniramine maleate, and sodium citrate. Ammonium chloride acts as an expectorant by irritating the gastric mucosa, which reflexively stimulates the secretion of respiratory tract fluid to thin and loosen phlegm. Chlorpheniramine maleate is a first-generation antihistamine that competitively blocks histamine H1 receptors, thereby relieving allergic symptoms such as runny nose, sneezing, and watery eyes. Sodium citrate serves as a mucolytic agent that alters mucus pH to reduce its viscosity, facilitating easier clearance of the airways. Alcof Expectorant is indicated for the symptomatic relief of productive coughs associated with the common cold, bronchitis, and upper respiratory tract allergies.
