ALD-151 is a humanized monoclonal antibody designed to selectively target and neutralize misfolded forms of the superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) protein. In the context of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), particularly cases linked to SOD1 mutations, the protein undergoes conformational changes that lead to the formation of toxic aggregates, which are a hallmark of motor neuron degeneration. ALD-151 is engineered to bind specifically to these pathological misfolded species while sparing the normal, functional dimeric SOD1 protein. By clearing or neutralizing these toxic aggregates, the therapy aims to reduce neurotoxicity and slow the progression of the disease. Originally developed by Alder Biopharmaceuticals, the program appears to have been deprioritized or discontinued following the company's acquisition by Lundbeck.
