Aldesleukin + famotidine is an investigational combination regimen studied by the Leo W. Jenkins Cancer Center for the treatment of acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Aldesleukin is a recombinant form of human interleukin-2 (IL-2), a cytokine that acts as an immunotherapy by binding to the IL-2 receptor, thereby stimulating the proliferation and activation of T-cells and natural killer (NK) cells. In this specific clinical context, aldesleukin was administered as a daily pulse during the lymphocyte recovery phase following chemotherapy to enhance the immune system's ability to target residual leukemic cells. Famotidine, a histamine H2 receptor antagonist, was co-administered in the Phase II trial to evaluate its potential role in modulating the immune response or mitigating side effects during IL-2 therapy.
