aldesleukin + interferon alfa is a combination immunotherapy regimen evaluated for the treatment of metastatic cancer. Aldesleukin is a recombinant form of interleukin-2 (IL-2), a cytokine that plays a central role in the immune response by promoting the proliferation and activation of T lymphocytes and natural killer (NK) cells. Interferon alfa is a type I interferon that exhibits multifaceted anti-tumor activity, including the induction of MHC class I expression on tumor cells to improve recognition by the immune system, direct inhibition of viral replication, and suppression of cell proliferation. This specific outpatient subcutaneous administration protocol was investigated by Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian to assess the efficacy and toxicity of the combined cytokines in patients with advanced malignancies.
