Overview
Aldesleukin + nivolumab is an investigational combination therapy being evaluated for the treatment of metastatic clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC). Aldesleukin is a recombinant form of interleukin-2 (IL-2), a cytokine that promotes the proliferation and activation of T cells and natural killer cells by binding to the IL-2 receptor. Nivolumab is a fully human IgG4 monoclonal antibody that targets the programmed death-1 (PD-1) receptor on T cells, blocking its interaction with PD-L1 and PD-L2 to restore anti-tumor immune responses. The University of Michigan Rogel Cancer Center is conducting a Phase Ib/II trial to determine if the combination of high-dose aldesleukin and nivolumab provides synergistic efficacy and improved durable response rates compared to monotherapy in patients with advanced kidney cancer.
