Aldesleukin + zoledronic acid is an investigational combination therapy being evaluated by Nantes University Hospital for the treatment of hematologic neoplasms, specifically to prevent relapse following haploidentical allogeneic stem cell transplantation (haplo-SCT). Aldesleukin is a recombinant form of interleukin-2 (IL-2) that stimulates the immune system by activating T cells and natural killer (NK) cells through the IL-2 receptor. Zoledronic acid is a bisphosphonate that, in this context, is used to promote the expansion of Vγ9Vδ2 T cells, a subset of gamma-delta T cells with potent anti-tumor cytotoxicity. The combination aims to leverage the synergistic effects of IL-2-mediated immune activation and aminobisphosphonate-induced T cell expansion to enhance the graft-versus-leukemia effect and reduce the risk of disease recurrence.
