Overview

Alefacept + narrow band UVB phototherapy is a **combination therapy** used primarily for the treatment of **moderate to severe psoriasis**. **Alefacept** is a recombinant fusion protein that binds to CD2 on the surface of T lymphocytes, inhibiting their activation and inducing apoptosis of memory-effector T cells, thereby modulating immune-mediated inflammation. **Narrow band UVB phototherapy (nbUVB)** delivers targeted ultraviolet B light (311–312 nm), which slows abnormal skin cell proliferation and further suppresses cutaneous cell-mediated immune responses, reducing inflammation and promoting skin clearance. Multiple randomized trials and case reports demonstrate **synergistic clinical efficacy** of alefacept plus nbUVB compared to alefacept or nbUVB alone, offering significantly higher rates and faster onset of clinical remission (PASI 75 and PGA clear/almost clear).
