Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Distal Campath** is a Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia reduced-intensity allogeneic hematopoietic stem-cell transplantation conditioning approach that uses **alemtuzumab**, rather than a distinct active drug or formulation. Alemtuzumab is a recombinant humanized anti-CD52 IgG1 monoclonal antibody that depletes recipient lymphocytes. In the distal Campath schedule used in the CHOP Phase II non-malignant-disorders protocol, alemtuzumab is started substantially before stem-cell infusion, approximately 22 days before transplantation, to provide host immunosuppression while limiting residual antibody exposure that could impair donor immune-cell function and engraftment. The regimen has been studied in pediatric and young-adult patients with non-malignant immunodeficiencies, bone-marrow-failure disorders, and hemoglobinopathies, including IPEX syndrome, sickle cell disease, and beta thalassemia major.
