alendronate + cholecalciferol

**Alendronate + cholecalciferol** is a once-weekly fixed-dose oral combination of alendronate, a nitrogen-containing bisphosphonate, and cholecalciferol, also known as vitamin D3. Alendronate inhibits osteoclast-mediated bone resorption, while cholecalciferol is converted to active vitamin D metabolites that support intestinal calcium absorption and bone mineral homeostasis. Marketed formulations contain 70 mg alendronate with either 2,800 IU or 5,600 IU cholecalciferol. It is approved for osteoporosis in postmenopausal women and to increase bone mass in men with osteoporosis; it is not intended to treat vitamin D deficiency by itself.
