Overview

Obiferol is a fixed-dose combination tablet containing alendronic acid and cholecalciferol (vitamin D3). Developed by Obsons Pharmaceuticals, it is indicated for the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women and to increase bone mass in men with osteoporosis. Alendronic acid is a nitrogen-containing bisphosphonate that inhibits farnesyl pyrophosphate synthase (FDPS) in osteoclasts, thereby suppressing bone resorption and reducing bone turnover. Cholecalciferol is a vitamin D3 precursor that is metabolized to its active form, calcitriol, which binds to the vitamin D receptor (VDR) to enhance intestinal calcium absorption and support bone mineralization. This combination ensures that patients receiving bisphosphonate therapy maintain adequate vitamin D levels to optimize bone health.
