Aleurites moluccanus extract is a botanical extract derived from the leaves of the Aleurites moluccanus (candlenut) tree. It is primarily investigated in preclinical research for its anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and disease-modifying properties, particularly in the context of rheumatoid arthritis and neuropathic pain. The extract is typically standardized to contain the flavonoid 2″-O-rhamnosylswertisin, which is considered its main active constituent. In experimental models, it has demonstrated the ability to reduce mechanical hypersensitivity, paw edema, and joint damage, including bone erosion and cartilage degradation. Its mechanism of action involves the modulation of opioid, dopaminergic, and oxidonitrergic pathways, as well as the inhibition of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) and reduction of pro-inflammatory cytokines like IL-1β.
