Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Alfacyte is a novel, synthetic hybrid interferon developed by ILC Therapeutics as a broad-spectrum antiviral treatment. It is designed as an inhaled medicine to treat respiratory viral infections (RVIs), including SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) and Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV). The drug is an engineered protein that combines properties of different interferon subtypes to enhance potency and reduce side effects compared to naturally occurring interferons. Preclinical studies at the University of St Andrews demonstrated high potency against SARS-CoV-2 in vitro. The development program includes manufacturing scale-up with 3P Bio SA and clinical trial preparation with TCRS.
