Alferminogene tadenovec is an investigational gene therapy designed to promote angiogenesis and improve blood flow in patients with myocardial ischemia and angina associated with coronary artery disease. It consists of a replication-deficient human adenovirus serotype 5 vector encoding the human fibroblast growth factor 4 (FGF4) gene, which stimulates the formation of new collateral blood vessels in the heart. The drug is administered via intracoronary infusion, aiming to enhance natural vascular repair mechanisms where native vessel formation is insufficient. Clinical trials have shown that alferminogene tadenovec can increase exercise capacity and myocardial perfusion, particularly benefiting female patients with stable angina who are not candidates for revascularization[1][2][6][7].
