Drug intelligence / Profile preview
ALFQ adjuvant (Army Liposome Formulation with QS21) is a liposome-based vaccine adjuvant developed by the U.S. Army at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR). It belongs to the Army Liposome Formulation (ALF) family of adjuvants and is formulated by combining high-cholesterol ALF liposomes containing saturated phospholipids (DMPC and DMPG) with the saponin QS-21 and synthetic monophosphoryl lipid A (MPLA) as an immunostimulant. ALFQ is designed to enhance and direct immune responses, promoting mixed Th1/Th2 antibody responses and augmenting functional antibody activity. It is being evaluated in clinical trials as an adjuvant component for various vaccines, including candidates for malaria, HIV-1, COVID-19, Campylobacter jejuni diarrhea, and dengue (such as VLP Therapeutics' VLPDEN-02).
