ALG-072571 is a preclinical-stage small molecule capsid assembly modulator (CAM) developed by Aligos Therapeutics for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. As a Class II CAM, it binds to the HBV core protein (HBcAg) and directs the assembly process toward the formation of empty, morphologically normal capsids. This mechanism effectively prevents the encapsidation of the viral pre-genomic RNA (pgRNA), thereby halting the reverse transcription process and the production of new infectious virions. ALG-072571 is part of Aligos's broader portfolio of HBV antivirals designed to be used in combination regimens to achieve a functional cure for chronic hepatitis B.
