Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Algidol Zen is a combination pharmaceutical product developed by Gelpharma, containing ibuprofen (200 mg) and diphenhydramine (25 mg). Ibuprofen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that acts as a non-selective inhibitor of cyclooxygenase enzymes (COX-1 and COX-2), thereby reducing the synthesis of prostaglandins to provide analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects. Diphenhydramine is a first-generation antihistamine that functions as an antagonist at the histamine H1 receptor; it crosses the blood-brain barrier to produce sedative effects, serving as a sleep aid. The product is formulated as a soft gelatin capsule for oral administration, specifically targeting nighttime relief of mild to moderate pain and associated insomnia. It is currently approved and marketed in Mexico.
