Alginic sodium diester, also known as propylene glycol alginate sodium sulfate (PSS), is a semi-synthetic sulfated polysaccharide derivative extracted from alginic acid through chemical modification. It possesses a variety of pharmacological actions, most notably anticoagulant and antithrombotic effects, with an anticoagulant potency approximately one-third to one-half that of heparin. The drug also exhibits antiplatelet aggregation, lipid-lowering, and vasodilatory properties, which collectively work to reduce blood viscosity and improve microcirculation. It is primarily indicated for the prevention and treatment of ischemic cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, including cerebral thrombosis, coronary heart disease, and stroke, as well as hyperlipidemia and hyperviscosity syndrome. Additionally, it has been utilized in the management of disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) and chronic glomerulonephritis.
