ALGIREST-M

ALGIREST-M is a fixed-dose combination oral medication developed and marketed by Macmillan Pharmaceuticals, containing the leukotriene receptor antagonist montelukast (10 mg) and the second-generation antihistamine fexofenadine (120 mg). Montelukast selectively antagonizes the cysteinyl leukotriene receptor 1 (CysLT1), thereby inhibiting the inflammatory effects of leukotrienes which contribute to nasal congestion and bronchoconstriction. Fexofenadine acts as a selective peripheral H1 histamine receptor antagonist, providing relief from histamine-mediated symptoms such as sneezing, pruritus, and rhinorrhea. This combination therapy is indicated for the symptomatic treatment of allergic rhinitis and other allergic conditions, including urticaria, by addressing both the early and late phases of the allergic response.
