Alhagi pseudalhagi extract (APE) is a botanical extract derived from the aerial parts of the thorny perennial shrub *Alhagi pseudalhagi* Desv., a member of the Fabaceae family found in arid regions. Historically utilized in traditional Uyghur and Ayurvedic medicine for its anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and detoxifying properties, APE is currently being investigated in preclinical research for the treatment of ulcerative colitis (UC). Its therapeutic effects are primarily attributed to the modulation of the TLR4-dependent NF-κB signaling pathway, which leads to the downregulation of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6. The extract contains a complex profile of phytochemicals, including taxifolin, hyperoside, rutin, kaempferol, isorhamnetin, and 7,8-dihydroxyflavone. Research indicates that APE treatment can repair colon mucosa injury, reduce weight loss, and attenuate disease activity in animal models of colitis.
