Overview

Alisartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB), structurally related to losartan, and is sometimes referred to as "allisartan" in chemical databases. Like other ARBs, it acts by selectively blocking the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor, thereby inhibiting vasoconstriction and aldosterone secretion. This leads to relaxation of blood vessels, reduction in blood pressure, and decreased workload on the heart. Alisartan has been developed primarily for the treatment of hypertension.
