Overview

Alisol B is a tetracyclic triterpenoid compound isolated primarily from the rhizome of Alisma orientale, a plant used in traditional Chinese medicine. It is a small molecule inhibitor that targets the sarcoplasmic/endoplasmic reticulum Ca2+ ATPase pump (SERCA), thereby disrupting calcium homeostasis in cells. This disruption leads to calcium mobilization from internal stores, resulting in endoplasmic reticulum stress, autophagy induction (via the CaMKK-AMPK-mTOR pathway), cell cycle arrest in G1 phase, and apoptosis in various cancer cell lines. Alisol B is hence studied as a potential antitumor agent and a research compound for modulating calcium signaling, cell death, and autophagy[1][2].
