Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Alivio PR is a prolonged-release oral tablet formulation of oxycodone hydrochloride, a small molecule opioid agonist. Developed by Bristol Laboratories, it is designed for the management of moderate to severe chronic pain requiring continuous, around-the-clock opioid analgesia. The drug works by selectively binding to and activating mu-opioid receptors in the central nervous system, thereby inhibiting ascending pain pathways and altering the perception of and response to pain. The prolonged-release delivery system is engineered to provide sustained therapeutic plasma concentrations, allowing for less frequent dosing compared to immediate-release oxycodone products.
