ALKS 29

**ALKS 29** was an investigational oral, two-agent combination developed by Alkermes for the treatment of alcohol dependence. Alkermes reported positive preliminary results from an approximately 150-patient, eight-week randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled Phase 1/2 study, including improvements in abstinent days, heavy-drinking days, and average drinks per day when administered with psychosocial therapy. The identities of its active components, molecular targets, and detailed mechanism of action were not publicly disclosed. A subsequent open-label Phase 1 crossover pharmacokinetic study was initiated in December 2008 to compare ALKS 29 with an oral control.
