Overview

Allerdent is a fully functional, commercial-grade toothpaste platform designed to deliver personalized allergy immunotherapy through daily tooth brushing. This approach, known as oral mucosal immunotherapy (OMIT), allows for the incorporation and stabilization of allergenic proteins (specific to each patient’s allergies) into the toothpaste base. When used as directed, these proteins are delivered to the oral mucosa—areas rich in immune cells responsible for initiating desensitization—thereby helping patients build tolerance to environmental allergens such as pollens, dust mites, animal dander, and molds. The product can be customized by physicians with up to 10 different allergen extracts per patient and is intended primarily for respiratory allergies like allergic rhinitis. Developed by Dr. William Reisacher at Weill Cornell Medicine and commercialized by Allovate Therapeutics, Allerdent offers an alternative to traditional subcutaneous or sublingual immunotherapy methods[1][3][4][5][8].
