Overview
The allergenic extract of Graminaceae is a biological product developed by LOFARMA, derived from the pollen of grasses in the Graminaceae family. It is designed for the diagnosis and potential treatment of IgE-mediated respiratory allergies, including allergic rhinitis and asthma. The extract functions by eliciting a wheal-and-flare skin reaction in sensitized individuals, which is proportional to their level of IgE-mediated sensitivity. This property was utilized in a Phase 2 clinical trial in Italy for the in vivo biological standardization of the extract, aiming to define biological activity in histamine equivalent prick (HEP) units and establish in-house reference preparations for skin prick testing (SPT).
