Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Allergovit Grasses is a subcutaneous allergoid immunotherapy (SCIT) developed by Allergopharma for the treatment of IgE-mediated allergic rhinitis, allergic rhinoconjunctivitis, and bronchial asthma caused by grass pollen sensitization. The product consists of a 100% mixture of chemically formaldehyde-modified allergoids derived from six grass species: *Holcus lanatus*, *Dactylis glomerata*, *Lolium perenne*, *Phleum pratense*, *Poa pratensis*, and *Festuca pratensis*. These allergoids are co-precipitated with aluminium hydroxide, which acts as a depot adjuvant to enhance the immune response while reducing allergenicity. By desensitizing the immune system through regular subcutaneous injections prior to the pollen season, Allergovit Grasses reduces allergic symptoms and the need for symptomatic medication. It has been available in Europe since 1987 and has been studied in various uptitration schedules to optimize patient convenience and safety.
