Overview

Allermmune HDM is a veterinary allergen-specific immunotherapy (AIT) vaccine developed by Nippon Zenyaku Kogyo (Zenoaq) for the treatment of canine atopic dermatitis induced by house dust mites. The vaccine's active ingredient is recombinant Der f 2 (Dermatophagoides farinae 2), a major allergen from house dust mites, which is conjugated to the polysaccharide pullulan. Pullulan acts as an immunomodulatory carrier that enhances the desensitization process. By modulating the immune response through repeated exposure to the recombinant allergen, the therapy aims to reduce clinical symptoms and the reliance on symptomatic anti-inflammatory medications in sensitized dogs. Launched in Japan in June 2014, it represents the first recombinant allergen-based desensitization therapy for dogs. It has also been investigated for use in feline atopic skin syndrome.
