Overview

AllerT4 is an investigational therapy for birch pollen allergy, consisting of contiguous overlapping peptides (COPs) derived from the major birch allergen, Bet v 1. It is part of a novel specific immunotherapy approach designed to induce T-cell tolerance without causing IgE-mediated allergic reactions. In early studies, a set of peptides referred to as "AllerT4-T5" showed some residual IgE binding and minor reactivity in skin prick tests, distinguishing it from a more hypo-allergenic formulation called AllerT. [pmid:23725004] The goal of using these synthetic peptides is to present all potential T-cell epitopes to the immune system while avoiding the three-dimensional structures that bind to IgE antibodies, thus offering a potentially safer alternative to traditional allergen extracts.
