Overview

Allicor is a time-released garlic powder tablet developed by INAT-Farma for the treatment and prevention of cardiovascular diseases and metabolic disorders. Each tablet contains 150 mg of garlic powder, formulated to provide a prolonged biological effect lasting 12-16 hours. The drug acts by inhibiting key enzymes in cholesterol biosynthesis, such as HMG-CoA reductase and squalene monooxygenase, and by reducing serum atherogenicity. Clinical studies, including the AMAR (Atherosclerosis Monitoring and Atherogenicity Reduction) study, have demonstrated that long-term treatment with Allicor significantly reduces the progression of carotid intima-media thickness (IMT) and lowers LDL cholesterol levels. Additionally, Allicor has shown efficacy in improving metabolic control in type 2 diabetes patients by reducing fasting blood glucose and triglyceride levels.
